Teledyne TapTone Announces Release of Inspection System for High Pressure Containers
NORTH FALMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS, June 5, 2009 - Teledyne TapTone, a leading manufacturer of package inspection systems for the food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, announced today that it has developed a new inspection system to test for leaks in high pressure containers. The TapTone 4000-FS, which is based on TapTone's existing Force Inspection system is designed to accurately test flexible metal and plastic containers with internal pressures of 0-140 psi (9.6 bar). The system, which was designed to test pressures in high pressure aerosol containers, also features an all stainless steel design, which makes it favorable for corrosive environments. The system is also considerably faster than previous systems and can test 100% of containers at speeds greater than 2,000 containers per minute depending on the size and construction of the container.
Fluorocarbons were traditionally used as propellants in aerosol containers until the late 1990's when they were banned by the US government and other international countries in an attempt to protect the rapidly depleting ozone layer in the atmosphere. Today, most aerosol container manufacturers have moved to gas propellants that are not harmful to the environment. These gas propellants, however, have no weight or visible volume that would allow them to be tested by conventional means. During a recent beta test at an aerosol manufacturing facility, the TapTone 4000-FS was able to detect leaking and low pressure containers that were missed by conventional detection methods currently used by the industry. The system accurately detected the faulty containers with zero percent false rejects. The addition of this system to the Taptone Force system family of inspection systems, gives manufacturers the best choice for leak inspection at two different price points and performance specifications. They can now choose the system that will deliver the results required by their quality control specifications and that meets their budget needs. Teledyne TapTone Features a Lightweighted Plastic Bottle Inspection Solution at PackExpo
NORTH FALMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS, November 4, 2008 - Teledyne TapTone, a leading manufacturer of package inspection systems for the food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, announced today that it will have a special display at the PackExpo International show to address leak detection in lightweighted plastic containers. The display will incorporate a liquid nitrogen doser (courtesy of Cryotech International) and a TapTone 1000 Force System with X-ray fill height inspection. The display is designed to showcase the issues associated with reducing the amount of plastic in the sidewall of beverage containers and how the TapTone systems can help identify and diagnose defective containers. The display will demonstrate how Teledyne TapTone’s systems can accurately detect leaks, underfills, overfills, over-pressurized and under-pressurized containers in liquid nitrogen-dosed and carbonated beverage containers.
Sustainable packaging initiatives have been the driving force in efforts to lightweight plastic and metal beverage containers. The initiative has been fueled by many factors including Wal-Marts’ Sustainable Packaging Scorecard. The TapTone 1000 Force System can detect changes in pressure as small as 2 psi. When combined with optional sensors, the system will also perform fill level inspection and cap inspection. “There are many aspects that have to be considered when lightweighting beverage containers. These containers are more prone to defects. Our systems can help processors identify and diagnose the main cause of the defect and then remove those containers from the line.” says Rick Reardon, Teledyne TapTone’s Regional Sales Manager.
